Origin

Daoism: A Profound and Enduring Faith
Daoism is an indigenous religion of our nation, with deep historical roots and a timeless vitality. Interwoven with local customs, it is a faith shared by the majority of our people. Daoism has not only played a stabilizing role in our society over the centuries but has also made significant contributions and had profound influences on literature, art, science, and architecture. Moreover, it has deep connections with the history of academic thought, political philosophy, and national revolutions in our country.

As Daoism has evolved, adapting to changes in eras, migration, and regional climatic differences, its activities have taken on diverse expressions. Despite this, Daoism remains closely connected to the daily lives of ordinary people.

However, the true essence of Daoism is often misunderstood. It is not limited to the functional religious practices seen in popular culture or media portrayals, which sometimes label it as superstitious, vulgar, outdated, or rigid. These misconceptions, while rooted in historical biases, do not reflect the authentic nature of Daoism, nor are they welcomed by Daoist practitioners.

Since 2013, Yuanta Dao Hall has been organizing the "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles" Daoist Cultural Promotion Event in Wenshan District. The event has received enthusiastic support and participation from the community. After thorough research and planning, we have decided to once again host the "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles 5: Welcoming the Gods" to further promote and introduce the rich traditions of Daoist culture.

Event Highlights
In this year’s "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles", we have refined the content from the previous four editions and addressed areas for improvement. We continue to invite local temples to participate in the event. Key activities include:

Opening Event: Divine Beast Cup Charity Run
Closing Ceremony: Lantern Lighting Blessing Ritual
Community Engagement: Prize Redemption and Social Gathering
This year, we are expanding the program to include five additional activities:

Free Traditional Chinese Medicine Consultations
Massage Therapy for the Visually Impaired
Educational Talks on Organic Farming and Food Safety
Art and Farming Workshops
Small Farmer Market Fair
Through these initiatives, we aim to establish the event as a distinctive cultural celebration in Wenshan District. In addition to introducing the foundations of Daoist culture and faith, the event provides accurate religious education and promotes local tourism, leisure industries, and specialty products.

A Systematic Introduction to Daoist Rituals
Building on the foundation of the past four events, this year’s focus is a systematic introduction to Daoist deity welcoming rituals and related practices. To deepen participants' understanding, we will provide a “Cultural Passport” filled with rich Daoist knowledge. Additionally, we will invite scholars and experts to hold lectures on religious folklore, fostering interaction and knowledge exchange among participants.

Through this approach, we aim to offer accurate understanding and appreciation of traditional Daoist beliefs, ensuring its values and practices are recognized and respected by a wider audience.

A Message from the Chairman

2017 "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles 5: Welcoming the Gods

This year marks the fifth anniversary of "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles." Over the past four years, Yuanta Dao Hall has used this event to introduce Daoist deities, temples, and the historical origins of various gods. Additionally, we have showcased the many temples in Wenshan and Songshan Districts of Taipei, highlighting local culture, famous landmarks, and delicious cuisines.

Since last year, we incorporated a running event into the program, emphasizing the importance of movement for health and longevity. Daoism not only encourages worship but also guides people to live healthier and longer lives.

This year’s theme, "Welcoming the Gods", combines Daoist culture with health and wellness. The “2017 Divine Beast Cup 2: Flying Divine Beasts Charity Run” will be held at Daonan Riverside Park, near Taipei Zoo, and is scheduled to start at 4:30 PM on October 28. The event will kick off with a procession of a deity-welcoming team leading the run. In the crisp autumn weather, participants can enjoy running, jogging, or walking the full course in good spirits. We have also prepared a variety of gifts for all registered participants and prizes for the top three winners of the competition category, as well as raffle prizes for all runners on-site.

Additional Activities
In addition to the dynamic activities, we’ve added free traditional Chinese medicine consultations and an organic agricultural product exhibition. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is recognized worldwide as one of the most effective and beneficial forms of healthcare. In TCM, the health and safety of food are of utmost importance. Through this event, we aim to introduce organic agricultural products to the public, helping people to eat safely, live healthily, avoid illness, and achieve longevity.

The Spirit of Daoism
"Religion provides solace, and faith gives strength." This encapsulates the essence of Daoism. Our mission is to help everyone achieve a life of health and happiness. With a Daoist faith, you may seek guidance from the deity to whom you feel connected, asking for clarity and enlightenment. With their blessings, your life will undoubtedly shine brightly and be extraordinary!
