2019 "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles 7: Fun with Worship"
This year’s 2019 "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles 7: Fun with Worship" introduces a unique and thoughtful approach. In 2018, “Crazy. Gods. Chronicles 6: Joy of Worship” began with an environmental purification theme, kicking off with a riverside walking activity organized for local residents. Families, young and old, enjoyed strolling along the riverbank and playing games, even earning commemorative gifts for picking up litter. The event was widely praised by Wenshan District residents who participated.
To further enhance local residents' appreciation of their living environment and its hidden beauty, this year’s theme is "Wenshan Neighborhood Gems." Each neighborhood in Wenshan District will be invited to nominate a temple or a unique attraction within its boundaries to be featured in the “2019 Crazy. Gods. Passport Handbook.” Participants can collect stamps from these locations and redeem rewards. Local businesses in Wenshan will also be invited to join the initiative by offering special discounts during the event.
Yuanta Dao Hall’s Mission
Yuanta Dao Hall has been organizing the "Crazy. Gods. Chronicles" for seven years as part of its Daoist cultural and local tourism promotion efforts. Over the years, these activities have incorporated elements of technology, environmental protection, purification, and wellness into daily practices such as check-ins, stamp collecting, fun runs, walking events, free health clinics, organic farming, and litter collection. By seamlessly blending religion, culture, public service, and tourism, the event has infused vibrancy and modern appeal into traditional Daoist activities. It has successfully expanded its demographic reach and deepened its impact, with the hope that Wenshan District’s participation will inspire a ripple effect, extending the event’s influence to other districts in Greater Taipei and even establishing it as a nationwide cultural celebration.
Revitalizing Daoist Culture
"Crazy. Gods. Chronicles" bridges traditional and modern Daoist culture, presenting it in a humorous and approachable manner. The event seeks to break taboos and misconceptions, adhering to authentic Daoist rituals while interpreting their significance through a contemporary lens. From traditional to modern, and from solemn to casual, the activities aim to let Daoist culture evolve within daily life, rekindling public enthusiasm and participation.
The event also strives to correct public misunderstandings of Daoism and temple activities, addressing stereotypes of superstition, vulgarity, and outdated practices. It aims to introduce accurate faith concepts and integrate Daoism into everyday life, allowing traditional rituals and doctrines to become a natural part of community living.
Exploring Wenshan's Cultural Richness
Wenshan District is home to numerous Daoist temples, each with its own unique characteristics. These temples offer valuable insights into cultural heritage, historical development, and architectural significance. When paired with nearby industries, local markets, and leisure tourism opportunities, a comprehensive development plan can be established, further enriching the district’s cultural literacy and quality of life.
A Call for Collective Efforts
Yuanta Dao Hall hopes this event will serve as a starting point for broader initiatives, encouraging collaboration among like-minded individuals to organize diverse Daoist cultural promotion activities. We warmly invite feedback and guidance from all sectors, welcoming suggestions to refine and enhance future events. Together, let us continue to celebrate and share the beauty of Daoist culture!
